Touch of Sight – White Cane Distribution to Visually Impaired Individuals

Specialty

This project was designed to support the mobility, dignity, and independence of visually impaired community members. Along with white canes, recipients were provided additional essential items and refreshments packaged in Rotary merchandise cloth bags — creating a comprehensive experience of care and inclusion.

This initiative directly aligns with Rotary’s focus on Disease Prevention & Treatment, Supporting Disabilities, and Community Empowerment.

Project Mode: Direct community outreach and support

Support:  The project was implemented under the leadership of Club President Rtn. Girija Saarda, with enthusiastic participation from dedicated Rotarians of the club.

The program was financially supported and executed by Rotary Club of Biratnagar Downtown, with support of Rs. 31000 from a non rotarian, reaffirming its commitment to service and inclusivity.

Beneficiaries

100 visually impaired individuals from the local community who require mobility support and daily living assistance tools.

Impact/Outcome

 Enhanced independent mobility and confidence among visually impaired individuals

 Improved safety and navigation in their daily lives

 Strengthened emotional well-being and sense of belonging

 Raised awareness in the community about disability inclusion

 Promoted Rotary as a compassionate advocate for persons with disabilities

This project helped recipients gain freedom of movement and feel seen, valued, and supported.

Sustainability

Rotary Club of Biratnagar Downtown will:

 Maintain follow-up contact with beneficiaries for usability feedback

 Identify additional communities requiring mobility aids

 Plan periodic support drives in collaboration with local disability networks

 Continue to advocate for inclusive infrastructure and public awareness

Sustainability will be driven through ongoing engagement, community partnerships, and future adaptive aid projects.
